The B.I.G Artcard project: Future Shelter

The  B.I.G Artcard project features original creative characters designed exclusively for BIG kids Magazine by artists and kids in response to the ideas of bravery, imagination and generosity. Our B.I.G kids, along with four invited artists designed three characters each – some of which we have published in the magazine, with the others to be included in the expanded collection of cards.  A preview of the project is in the pages of the magazine and the actual cards will be available soon. The four featured artists  are each incredible visionaries from far reaching corners of the globe and we are so thrilled to introduce them to you here in the lead up to our launch.

JANE KING Starting locally, Jane King is based in Perth and her brave bird journey to generous owl is such a beautiful and inspired response to the artcard ask. Each one of her cards joins with the others to make one complete scene and we love it. Jane is an uber generous and madly busy artist and mother and one half of Future Shelter -a very cool shopfront and design house in one.

I first heard of Future Shelter a few years ago when I purchased a little key tag with a little inscription of ‘future shelter’ for a friend who lives on the road.  The idea of future shelter is such a beautiful one and so open ended in its imagining. Needless to say when I found their home base and Little Design Horse workshop I was not disappointed – it is a treasure trove. Jane King and Adam Coffey are partners in life and in work and are completely inspiring in terms of their broad spectrum of shared projects and passions. Their shop is in a very funky North Perth street and their products – designed, printed and made in house – can be found the world over. (You can also get the coolest of things online and order them with free shipping Australia wide!)

In a previous life Jane and Adam were designers for Pumpkin Patch and most recently (and impressively!) they designed the official compendium folders for Chogm. This weekend they will appear in their pop up shop “Boom! town” opening for two days only as part of the very awesome creatively driven  Outskirts Festival.  Thanks so much Jane, we LOVE your work and hope to find you at Outskirts on Sunday!
